Cherokee Bluff Middle School Connection Classes 2019-2020

 

8th Graders

Intermediate Band I*: TR. Mr. Lonberger – Emphasizes performance and production, analysis, historical and cultural influences, improvisation and appreciation of music.  Only available to students who were in yearlong band in 7th grade.

Beginning Choral Ensemble*:  TR. Mr. Wright – Provides opportunities to develop performance skills and knowledge in ensemble singing. Only available to students who were in yearlong chorus in 7th grade.

Technological Systems: TR. Mrs. Duren – This course is designed for students to utilize the universal systems model including input, process, output and feedback. Students will examine various systems, such as; electrical, magnetic, mechanical, fluid, structural, natural, thermal, chemical, and information.

Healthcare Science: TRs. Mrs. Guevara – The course will enable students to receive initial exposure to healthcare science skills; attitudes applicable to healthcare including the concepts of health, wellness, and preventative care; and responsibilities of today’s healthcare provider.

Pathways in Marketing: TR. Mrs. Loggins – Pathways in Marketing introduces the five curriculum pathways in Marketing, Sales and Services and leads students to understand the different careers available in each pathway.

Visual Arts Comprehensive I *: TR. Mrs. West – Introduces art history, art criticism, aesthetic judgment and studio production. Emphasizes the ability to understand and use elements and principles of design through a variety of media, processes and visual resources, such as developing drawing skills and painting techniques.

Dramatic Arts I*: TR. Mr. Arena – This course serves as an introduction to the theatre arts. Students investigate theatre as a whole by exploring the techniques and origins of a wide variety of theatre arts in various cultures and periods.

German I*: Tr. Mr. Barton – Introduces the German language; emphasizes all skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing in an integrated way. Includes how to greet and take leave of someone, to ask and respond to basic questions, to speak and read within a range of carefully selected topics and to develop an understanding of German-speaking cultures.

Spanish I*: TR. Mrs. Hernandez – Introduces the Spanish language; emphasizes all skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in an integrated way. Includes how to greet and take leave of someone, to ask and respond to basic questions, to speak and read within a range of carefully selected topics and to develop an understanding of Spanish-speaking cultures.

Personal Fitness*: TRs. Coach Baker and Coach Cook – Explores the mental, physical, and social aspects of life and how each contributes to total health and well-being. Provides instruction in methods to attain a healthy level of physical fitness.  Running is a big part of the fitness portion!  Recommended for students who plan to participate in high school athletics.

Weight Training*: TR. Coach Martin – Introduces weight training; emphasizes strength development training and proper lifting techniques. Includes fitness concepts for developing healthy lifetime habits.

* Carnegie unit course – Students may earn high school credit for successful completion of this course.

Cherokee Bluff Middle School Connection Classes 2018-2019

 

6th and 7th Graders

 

Band: TR. Mr. Lonberger – Available to students who were in yearlong band in 6th grade or who are new to Band. Must meet with Band Director.

Chorus: TR. Mr. Wright – Students who did not participate in 6th Chorus must meet with Choral Director for proper placement.

PE: TRs. Coach Baker, Coach Martin and Coach Cook – Students perform complex combinations of movement specific to game, sport, rhythms, and/or physical activity settings. Specialized skills are adapted to meet the requirements of increasingly complex strategies.

Drama: TR. Mr. Arena – Students incorporate experiences and observation techniques into presentational theatre activities. They apply vocal and movement techniques appropriate to theatre activities and presentations.

Healthcare Science: TRs. Mrs. Guevara – The course will enable students to receive initial exposure to healthcare science skills; attitudes applicable to healthcare including the concepts of health, wellness, and preventative care; and responsibilities of today’s healthcare provider.

Exploring Engineering and Technology (6th): TR. Mrs. Duren – The goal of this course is to provide all students with an introduction to the principles of Engineering & Technology (hereafter referred to as E&T) and its place in the modern world.

Invention and Innovation (7th): TR. Mrs. Duren – Invention and Innovation is designed to introduce students to the world of invention and innovation along with the Engineering Design Process. They will examine the impacts of invention and innovation on society and solve problems through research, design, and experimentation in one or more of the areas of Engineering and Technology.

Basic Skills of Marketing (6th): TR. Mrs. Loggins– This course is the introductory course to Marketing. It will insure that students learn the fundamentals about our free enterprise system and how marketing is imperative to our economy. Students will gain knowledge about basic marketing concepts, and they will develop skills that allow them to use the marketing information through project-based instruction.

Exploring Marketing Education (7th): TR. Mrs. Loggins– This course connects foundational business and marketing concepts to general business and marketing activities. It is designed to give students a basic understanding of the marketing concept and the seven functions of marketing

Spanish: TR. Mrs. Hernandez – This class focuses on the development of communicative competence in the Spanish and understanding of the culture(s) of the people who speak the language. It assumes that the students have minimal or no prior knowledge of the language and culture.

Art: TR. Mrs. West – Introduces meaning and creative thinking, contextual understanding, assessment, reflection, and production to make connections from the world of art to other areas of learning and personal endeavors related to other disciplines.
